the roots of nguzo

We were founded in 2018 as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) and have developed several community partnerships. As a community led organization, we are connected in identifying, mobilizing, and celebrating our local resources to ensure sustainability. This can include personal connections, local materials, knowledge, and more to bring neighborhoods together and solve common problems. In 2021, Nguzo began shifting its project approaches to the community we serve and empowering our local team.

Our philosophy

We believe and operate on a philosophy deeply rooted in community involvement and ownership, believing that by involving community members in our projects, we foster a sense of ownership and responsibility that ensures sustainability. We emphasize empowerment through engagement, focusing on capacity building and skill development to promote self-sufficiency and resilience. Collaborative growth is central, with our progress intrinsically linked to the community's development. Adopting a holistic approach, we address social, economic, and environmental factors to ensure comprehensive development. Inclusivity and equity are prioritized, actively involving marginalized groups to bridge gaps and promote social justice.

Looking forward

Now ideas for expansion, programming, and solutions come from the ground up, with the full support of the Advisory Board to provide resources, professional development, and funding to ensure the success of our programs. We aspire to expand our projects to include environmental/climate change interventions, entrepreneurship training to support women and youth in the community, sustainable sports and games programs for youth within and outside of schools, and construction of latrines and water systems in school. We plan to scale up our reach into more districts and regions within Tanzania.
